"You must give some time to your fellow men. Even if it's a little thing, do something for others - something for which you get no pay but the privilege of doing it."

Rotary Work Day

The YWCA of San Diego County serves over 5,000 women, children and families each year, and this is possible only through the support of our committed volunteers. All volunteers are required to complete a Live Scan check and TB test prior to volunteering. It is asked that volunteers commit to at least 4 months of service.

Below is a list of our current volunteer needs:

  1. Becky's Boutique Assistant - Tuesday, Wednesday & Saturday; 10am-2pm – Downtown San Diego

Set up like a small thrift shop, Becky's Boutique displays all of the clothing and household donations that the YWCA receives. The clients of our programs are able to 'shop' in the Boutique at no cost and get the items they need. Volunteers in the Boutique sort and count donations, display stock on shelves, and assist clients with finding what they need and the checkout process (as everything is provided at no cost, there is no money handling involved in this role). Hours can be flexible, for example, volunteers can assist for one shift per month or for a portion of a shift each week (i.e. 10am-12pm each Saturday).

  2. Childcare - Monday 5-7pm - Downtown San Diego

Each Monday evening, while Cortez Hill Family Center holds a parenting class for the adults at Cortez Hill, help is needed to watch the children. Volunteers will work with a Children's Activities Coordinator to play games and facilitate activities with the children during the course of the parenting class.

  3. Childcare - 3rd Thursday of Each Month 4-6pm - Downtown San Diego

On the third Thursday of each month, we have a group of alternative health practitioners provide our clients with access to energy healing, massage and chiropractic care. While the adults are enjoying these services, we need volunteers to help the Children's Activities Coordinator to play games and facilitate activities with the children.

  4. Serving Dinner – Every Evening, 5-6:30pm - Downtown San Diego

Every night, we need volunteers to assist with serving dinner to the families at our Cortez Hill Family Center. No cooking is involved, simply serving the food to the families. Volunteers in this role need to complete a free online food serving course prior to beginning. Volunteers are especially needed for Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings.

If you are interested in one of the roles outlined above or have a specific skills to offer, please email *Please note that due to high volume of requests received by the YWCA, it may take up to a week to receive a response to your email*
